Stay Forever: From A distance
SHINAGAWA Maki was born in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. She first visited Taiwan in 1997 and was captivated by the Taoist parade culture. Later, she became fascinated with the culture of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples and began visiting various tribal communities almost every month.
In 2017, she met her Tsou husband, and the following year, they married and settled in Leye Village, Alishan. Despite the unfamiliar environment and language, she saw these challenges as motivation rather than obstacles. She not only learned Chinese but also obtained Tsou language certification and became a tribal tour guide. After all, the world is defined by oneself!
